The Ed Sullivan Plate-Spinning Guy

Category: Movies/TV — jerry @ 5:54 am

Okay, so I was waxing nostalgic the other day and remembering the old ED SULLIVAN SHOW that was on tv during the 50s and 60s, and I remembered the always-exciting plate-spinning guy. It was on the show about every other week it seems. Went to YouTube, but couldn’t find anything except this “faux” homage to it. What is most disappointing to me is that the music is different. In the original version there was this frenetic suspense-enhancing music going all of the time in the background. Does anyone remember how it went? Free cup of coffee to the first correct answer. I think it was some old “classical” number…

  1. Looks like I’m answering your year-old post, but I was actually trying to find the music for Ed Sullivan’s plate spinner today when discussing on Facebook a particularly difficult job that I had to do rapidly. The music was “Sabre Dance.” I hear it in my head every time I’m in a hurry with some task.

  3. Yes, the Sabre Dance – so I’m not the only one who misses that music with the plate spinning act. Let me know if you ever find the original by Aram Khachaturian.

  4. We just saw this act in Branson Mo as a pre show to Dixie Stampeed and it was the son of Erich Brenn doing the plate spinning. He said his father is alive and doing well but his father doesn’t think anyone remembers him. So nice to see dad passed the act down.
