Always sad to see a favorite author die.
From ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY:
Crime novelist Robert B. Parker has died at age 77 at his Cambridge, Mass. home. The AP reports that local police believe his death was from natural causes.
Parker wrote more than 50 novels including 37 featuring the famed tough-talking Boston private investigator Spenser, the basis for the 1980s TV show Spenser: For Hire. The latest Spenser book was 2009’s The Professional.
I started reading the Spenser private eye novels back in the 80’s. Liked them so much, we gave one of the boys “Spenser” as a middle name.
Last year one of my favorite movies was the well-reviewed APPALOOSA–which I only learned in the credits was a western written by Mr. Parker.
If you haven’t read any of the Spenser novels, I recommend them. He’s a “kinder, gentler” private eye who was once described as “Phil Donahue in a trenchcoat”.

I’m not sure if I have ever read any of Parker’s work, but I will keep him in mind next time I am browsing around Borders. Jerry, have you read any of Baldacci’s novels? My parents gave me “The Collectors” for Christmas and I enjoyed every minute of it. “Stone Cold” is next on my list after I finish the sixth Reacher novel.

Glad you’re enjoying the Reacher novels.
I have Baldacci’s THE CAMEL CLUB, but haven’t read it yet. I’ll move it up my list.
Ahhh…I just checked Amazon and I see that “The Collectors” is actually a sequel to “The Camel Club”.
I appreciate the advice.
By the way, you might also enjoy the Jonathan Kellerman novels about crime psychologist Alex Delaware. There are a lot of them, and I’ve enjoyed every one.

Who would ever give a kid the name ‘Spenser’ spelled THAT way?
