Hayley Clatterbuck To Be On JEOPARDY

My son Clint is really smart.  (It’s not fair to judge him by his comments here…)  :-)

In high school–Millard South High, here in Omaha–his classmate Hayley Clatterbuck was frequently his “intellectual nemesis”: the other student that just might be a little smarter than you…at least, on any given day.  I had one of those in high school, too–and I know he reads this blog.  (Hi, Clark!)

Anyway, I used to tease Clint about this old competition a lot.

And now I learn from this morning’s Omaha World Herald that Hayley–a student at the University of Nebraska–will be competing on tv’s JEOPARDY for a potential two-week stint starting this coming Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. on NBC.

Good for you, Hayley!  Your parents must be very proud!!

Clint…what do you have to say for yourself?  (tee-hee)

  1. She *IS* the only person I ever felt was smarter than me in high school.

But its ok, because I’ve learned to settle with almost being a genius while also being extremely good looking.

*ends show of undue arrogance he uses to make himself feel better… the kind of show he started putting on after he felt inadequate by being consistently beaten intellectually by a certain female from elementary school through high school*

Hey, Dad, want me to take the LSAT just for fun? Or are we still nervous your son will beat your score…

  2. I bet Hayley would beat you both.

  3. There really was no contest, Jerry. You were/are much smarter then me. I just cared about and was a little more competative about grades.

I tell my children stories about you, too. One of my favorites, and I might be guilty of embellishemnt, is that you bet me that you could get an A, B, C, D, and F for your five grades in one nine week period. I challanged you to name the classes for each grade. But we agreed to the origianl $1.00 wager. I thought you couldn’t keep track of your grades that well, but you won the bet. I think it is harder to do that then get straight A’s.

Whether or not the story is true, it shows are personalities. We love to gamble, and we don’t embarrass easily.

  4. Great, now I have a defense for when I don’t get A’s and B’s…

  5. Clark, you DID embellish just a little–but you’re right about the fact that I got an A,B,C,D and an F one quarter on my report card. And I did actually get a little perverse delight in that.

Alas, I was a troubled 14-year-old–but blessed with wonderful friends who helped me to not stray TOO far from the straight and narrow. (Not that you and I didn’t get into SOME mischief, though…)

  6. I’m pretty sure you got the F in Spanish (your brother Jim must be very proud).

Didn’t you also bet someone $100 that you could get straight A’s one semester? And I believe you did?
