One thing I remember about this song is that it was played in the final minutes of the movie MANHUNTER, directed by Michael Mann (one of my favorites!), and which was based on the Thomas Harris book RED DRAGON, which I had read long before “Hannibal Lector” had become a household name (SILENCE OF THE LAMBS was the book that actually put Hannibal on the map). That’s right: I’m that cool! RED DRAGON eventually did become a movie (director of the remake was Brent Ratner of PRISON BREAK tv series fame).

Ah, but I could go on and on… Here are the final moments of MANHUNTER:

Actually, this is last week’s news about the young lady coming forward about an incident she says occured, oh, a year or so ago (actually, 2007?), with Al Gore (whom she calls “Mr. Smiley Global Warming”). She would like $1 million for her story please.

Obviously a little country influence in this one, having been written and sung by Michael Nesmith–who has written a couple of other of my favorite songs, including “JoAnne” (featured elsewhere on the blog), and Linda Ronstadt’s breakout hit (with the Stone Poneys) “Different Drummer“.
